Pay Your NJ Traffic Ticket Online
New Jersey traffic tickets are paid through the official NJMCdirect portal, operated by the NJ Judiciary. This is a free, government-run service available 24/7.
What You’ll Need to Pay
Before you head to the official portal, make sure you have these three things from your ticket:
- Prefix – a 2-4 character code in the upper-left area of your summons
- Ticket number – the unique number printed on your summons
- License plate number – for the vehicle the ticket was issued to
You’ll also need a Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express card. A convenience fee of approximately 2% applies to all online payments.

Can’t Pay Online?
Not every ticket can be paid through NJMCdirect. If the portal can’t find your ticket or shows it’s not eligible for online payment, here are your other options:
- In person – visit the municipal court listed on your ticket during business hours
- By mail – send a money order payable to the court (never mail cash)
- By phone – some courts offer phone payment; call the court on your ticket to check
